the girl
The unnamed girl is, in many ways, more important than the boy in the story. She's kind-hearted and gentle, but can also be wry and sarcastic. Even though on the outside she may seem cold to some, to her friends she's warm and caring. Even though she's younger, in her early teens, than the boy, she's more confident and often nudges him in the right direction; she's almost as romantic inside as he is. She likes the boy a lot, but sometimes can't express it.
